A Critical Update on the Health of Darth Vader’s Voicer, James Earl Jones

Jame Earl Jones is one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actors. In addition to being a significant figure on Broadway, he has played roles in over 80 movies and voices one of the most iconic villains in film history – Darth Vader in the Star Wars Franchise.

Jones has been dubbed “one of the greatest actors in American history” for his incredible contribution. But where is he now? The last time we heard of him, there were concerns about his health. Here is a summary of James Earl Jones’s extraordinary career and a health update.

It All Started in the Late ’50s

James Earl Jones graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. He started his career in theater in the late 1950s and gained acclaim for being a prominent Shakespearean actor. Jones appeared in productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, Othello, and Measure for Measure.

In 1967, he worked on Broadway in the play, The Great White Hope – which was later adapted into a film three years later. Jones was rewarded for his hard work with his first Academy Award for his performance. And that was the beginning of an incredible film career.

More Than Six Decades in the Industry

Jones has made numerous film appearances over the past six decades, including Claudine, Coming to America, Field of Dreams, Patriot Games, The Hunt for Red October, Cry, and Primary Colors. He has gained international recognition as the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise.

He also voiced Mufasa in the Disney animated films The Lion King and The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. Jones has received several honors during his almost seven-decade career. These include an Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement, three Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards, and one Grammy Award.

He Was Broke When He Voiced Darth Vader

He may be over 90, but James Earl Jones is still going strong. He appeared in The Gin Game, which aired from 2015 to 2016. Jones voiced Mufasa in the Lion King movie in 2019. He also appeared in the eagerly anticipated Coming 2 America in 2021.

Jones still voices Darth Vader even though he initially didn’t expect it to last this long. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a 2011 interview, Jones said he was broke when he first got the gig in 1977 and had only agreed to a few hours of work.

An Update on His Health

Jones is in excellent health for his age, as far as we know. After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the mid-90s, the actor learned to control the chronic condition with diet and exercise. In a 2018 interview with Good Housekeeping, Jones stated that he still loves working.

On managing his condition, he said, “I didn’t want that to stop, so I had to take responsibility for my condition.” Jones isn’t concerned about growing older. When celebrating his 90th birthday, the actor said in an email to USA Today that he was “feeling fantastic and grateful.
